January 1, 2005 - Technology's Role in Literacy
Over the holiday break I received a book recommended by madre for use in my action research and my leadership role. Several things occurred to me through my reading of this book. 1. Literacy is an important skill and has changed and evolved throughout history, while literacy instruction may not have kept pace with this change (traditional literacy vs contemporary literacy). 2. I need to start with the faculty of my organization and begin their journey toward contemporary before directing my attention toward the students that they serve. This may at first seem odd, but I think that by using the participants in my AR project, I can begin to cultivate and craft a vision for our division that’s collectively based on contemporary literacy. This could then flow over into contemporary literacy with our students. This may be the value that I am looking for and that at the same time begins a relationship of understanding among the participant and provides a purpose for our CoP. All employees of my division are grounded in literacy in some way or form so this become the DOMAIN of our CoP. Aha! The journal and reflection works….it helps me think and begins to bring things to surface for me to examine. I need to work harder at recording my thoughts.
