The Buccaniner Cadre's Pirates of the Blue Diamond group was presented with the challenge of pushing a Lego pirate off a plank.  The process that evolved was as follows:

First, we discussed the task and spent time theorizing and assessing the task at hand.  This included touching and playing with the Legos, scratching our heads, and peppering the air with pirate jokes. Arrrgh!!!

Next came a web search to look at Lego robot building and programming.  The programming language was eventually revealed to us and it was a great relief to the rest of the group that Scott is a programming wiz.
